CU makes quick work of OPSU

LAWTON, Oklahoma (October 28) – For the second time this season the Cameron Aggies (13-10, 4-5 LSC) made quick work of the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies (5-21, 1-9 Heartland) with a 3-0 sweep. Tonight’s match was scored 25-14, 25-15, 25-22, and lasted a little over an hour. CU was in control of the match throughout and now has just four matches left on the season.

School of Liberal Arts Week

The departments of Art, Communication, Criminal Justice & Sociology, English & Foreign Languages, History & Government, Music, and Theatre Arts have planned an exciting roster of events that will appeal to CU students, alumni and all residents of the southwest Oklahoma. CU falls to #3 WTAMU

CANYON, Texas (October 25) – Despite a valiant effort, the Cameron Aggie volleyball team (12-10, 4-5 LSC) lost today to the nationally-ranked #3 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs (24-4, 8-0 LSC). Cameron lost this afternoon’s road match 3-1 in ninety minutes. The match was very competitive and was scored 10-25, 25-21, 11-25, 18-25. CU’s loss ended their two-match win streak and leaves them with just five matches on the 2008 regular season.

Aggies sweep Zias out west

PORTALES, New Mexico (October 23) – With a 3-0 sweep of the Eastern New Mexico Zias (6-22, 0-7 LSC) tonight in Portales, New Mexico, the Cameron Aggies (12-9, 4-4 LSC) won consecutive matches for the first time since late September. This evening’s match was scored 25-14, 25-23, 25-16, and lasted just over an hour. CU’s victory puts them in a tie at 7th place with Abilene Christian and Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference standings.

Aggies host OIW, tie for 8th

DUNCAN, Oklahoma (October 21) – Although it wasn’t the finish the Aggie women’s golf team was hoping for, the team did a tremendous job as hosts of the annual Oklahoma Intercollegiate for Women golf tournament at The Territory Golf Club (Duncan, Oklahoma). CU took home an 8th place finish and an overall team score of 651 (323-328). Beautiful weather, stiff competition, and elite golf facilities provided for a great tournament.

CU finishes 5th on Bayou; Svajlen 78th

DESTIN, Florida (October 21) – A strong push in the final round vaulted the Cameron Aggie men’s golf team into the top five at this week’s Indian Bayou Classic in Destin, Florida. The twelve-team event was hosted by North Alabama University and was played at the Indian Bayou Golf Club. CU’s total team score in the event was 604 (304-300). Full statistics and results will not be made available by North Alabama until Wednesday.

CU defeats TAMUK in final set

LAWTON, Oklahoma (October 18) – The Cameron Aggie volleyball team (11-9, 3-4 LSC) had won just one five-set match all year… until today. This afternoon in the Aggie Gym, CU defeated the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville (7-14, 3-6 LSC) 3-2. The match was scored 25-27, 31-29, 14-25, 25-20, 15-13, and lasted just under three hours. A number of soldiers from nearby Ft. Sill attended the match in uniform, much to the delight of the Aggie student-athletes and fans who so appreciate the military’s effort.

Aggies battle the best at Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (October 18) – No stranger to battling the best runners in the entire nation, the Cameron Aggie cross country team today took on the country’s best at the annual Chile Pepper Festival race hosted by the University of Arkansas. At this year’s installment of the prestigious meet, the Aggies finished in 22nd place out of the 30 elite NCAA teams in competition. CU’s total team score in the meet was 647.

Aggies host Territory, finish 7th

DUNCAN, Oklahoma (October 14) – The Cameron Aggie men’s golf team battled through inclement weather and putting difficulties to finish in 7th place at the annual Territory Classic golf tournament this week. The event was hosted by the Cameron Aggies and was played at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Oklahoma. CU’s score in the event was 600 (302-298). Cameron now has one tournament remaining in the fall season.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (October 11) – Today the Cameron Aggie men’s tennis team proved there was absolutely no hangover from last year’s historic season. This afternoon the team won 7 of the 9 championship matches at the Lone Star Conference men’s tennis championship on the campus of Midwestern State University. CU further established themselves as the top team not only in the LSC but in the entire region today, as they nearly swept every championship. This was the last action for the Aggie men this semester.

ADA, Oklahoma (October 11) – The Cameron Aggie volleyball team (10-8, 2-3 LSC) got back on the winning track today with a solid 3-0 sweep of the East Central University Tigers (7-15, 2-4 LSC). CU defeated ECU 25-17, 25-20, 25-21, in a match that lasted just over an hour. The Aggies outplayed the Tigers in nearly every aspect of the match, and the win brought CU within a game of getting back to the .500 mark in Lone Star Conference play.

DURANT, Oklahoma (October 9) – It was a tough loss tonight for the Cameron Aggie volleyball team (9-8, 1-3 LSC) who tonight lost their third-straight Lone Star Conference match. This evening the team fell in five sets to the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State (13-8, 1-4 LSC). The match was scored 17-25, 30-28, 22-25, 25-23, 15-17, and lasted the better part of three hours. Cameron battled back and forth and nearly escaped Durant with a victory.

Aggies win another 3rd place trophy

EDMOND, Oklahoma (October 7) – Make it back-to-back 3rd place finishes for the nationally-ranked #26 Cameron Aggie women’s golf team, who today brought home more hardware for their 2008-2009 season trophy case. This week the Aggies participated in the Lady Broncho Masters Classic tournament, an event hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma and played at the Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma. George leads CU women at ITA’s

ABILENE, Texas (October 4) – The Cameron Aggie women’s tennis team put together a great showing this weekend at the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship in Abilene, Texas. Abilene Christian University hosted the three-day event in which spots at the ITA National Championship are on the line. The Aggies made it two days into the tournament before CU’s final player was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

CU finishes strong at OSU

STILLWATER, Oklahoma (October 4) – An ailing Cameron Aggie cross country team took to the course today against a number of elite teams at the prestigious Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree. A bout of mononucleosis prevented Cameron’s top two runners, senior Josh Stewart and freshman Mark Merritt, from competing but the Aggies still managed an 11th place finish in the College Division’s 27-team field. The race was 8 kilometers.

Certainly anyone who has turned on the TV or read a newspaper recently is aware of the pretty active hurricane season that's been going on, especially in the Caribbean this season. Even those of us on the Southern Plains, some distance from the Gulf, have dealt with the fringe winds and rain.

But we don't have to import the kind of weather that knocks out electricity, we make plenty of our own around here.

We've even had winters, such as in 2006-07, where ice and snow did a lot of destruction to roofs, fences and trees, as well as knocking out power. The hardest hit areas were northeast and central Oklahoma. But, those storms made the national news and ...

DALLAS, Texas (September 30) – The nationally-ranked #30 Cameron Aggie women’s golf team returns home to Lawton tonight with an extra piece of baggage: a 3rd place trophy from this week’s Dallas Baptist University Classic. The event was played at the Waterchase Golf Club in Dallas, Texas, and featured 16 of the top teams in the Lone Star Conference as well as the entire region. CU’s total team score in the event was 627 (309-318), which is the team’s best score of the season by 27 strokes.
