CU splits I-44 battle with USAO

CHICKASHA, Oklahoma (February 28) – In their final tune-up before this weekend’s home opener, the Cameron Aggie softball team (12-11) today made the short drive up Interstate-44 to take on the Drovers of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The two squads battled back and forth and ended up splitting their afternoon double-header. USAO took the first game 8-5, and CU won the nightcap 6-2.

Aggie tennis blanks OBU, 18-0

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma (February 27) – The nationally-ranked Aggie men’s (3-1) and women’s (3-1) tennis teams hit the road for another early season non-conference dual on Wednesday and came home with another resounding victory. The squad traveled over to Shawnee, Oklahoma, to take on a tough Oklahoma Baptist University Bison squad and left with an undefeated sweep. The Aggie men’s team defeated the Bison 9-0, and the CU women followed suit with a 9-0 sweep of the Lady Bison.

Tip-in gives Aggie men big victory

COMMERCE, Texas (February 27) – Tonight in an absolute thriller, the Cameron men’s basketball team (6-20, 4-7 LSC-North) needed overtime and a tip-in with just over a second left on the clock to record their sixth victory of the season. The Aggies had traveled to Commerce, Texas, to battle the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions and came away with a nail-biting victory. The final score was 93-91 as the Aggies won it in the third and final frame. Tonight’s contest was Cameron’s final road game of the season.

Aggie women fall in final road game

COMMERCE, Texas (February 27) – The Aggie women’s basketball team (4-22, 1-10 LSC-North) came up just short tonight in their final road game of the 2007-2008 season. The CU squad traveled southeast to take on the tough Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce (19-8, 8-4 LSC-North) who are currently in second place in the Lone Star Conference North Division, and may move into first place after tonight’s victory. Cameron lost to Commerce tonight by the score 67-48.

Aggies win one of four at Rams

SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 24) – Hitting the road for the first time this season, the Cameron Aggie baseball team (9-7, 3-5 LSC) traveled south this weekend to take on the Angelo State University Rams (11-5, 6-2 LSC). CU ended up losing their first series of the season as they dropped three of the four games. Angelo State is a very good team who went deep into the NCAA postseason last year with more then 50 victories.

AMARILLO, Texas (February 23) – Just days before their 2008 home opener, the Cameron softball team (11-10) this weekend participated in the West Texas A&M Lady Buff Invitational tournament. The Aggie squad has taken part in a number of non-conference tournament thus far this season, and today wrapped up a solid 3-1 showing in their four games at WTAMU. CU swept their two games on Friday, and split their two games this afternoon.

Aggies closer to postseason with win

DURANT, Oklahoma (February 20) – Still needing to record a few more victories in order to clinch a berth in the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament, the Aggie men’s basketball team (5-19, 3-6 LSC-North) tonight took to the road to battle the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (3-21, 0-9 LSC-North). Cameron’s postseason hopes are still alive after the Aggies put away the Storm, 73-72. The game was very intense and gave CU the season sweep of SOSU.

DURANT, Oklahoma (February 20) – With just over a week left in the 2007-2008 season, the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (4-20, 1-8 LSC-North) traveled to Durant, Oklahoma, to take on the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State (14-10, 5-4 LSC-North). The teams battled the entire game, but SOSU came out on top 82-76. The Aggies appeared to be out of the game after the first half, but came seconds away from the victory via a strong second half.

Aggie men take 3rd at SEU Invite

AUSTIN, Texas (February 19) – Today down in Texas the Cameron men’s golf team wrapped up their first tournament of the spring season in impressive fashion. The Aggies were taking part in the annual St. Edward’s University Invitational and had a 1st place lead after the first two rounds. In today’s third and final round, CU slipped a bit but was still able to muster a 3rd place overall finish. Cameron finished with a team score of 898 strokes (298-294-306).

SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 18) – The Cameron Aggie softball team (8-9) this afternoon wrapped up play at the Angelo State University Blue & Gold Classic. For the second straight week the Aggies faced some of the top teams in the nation and this time were able to come away with a pair of wins. Cameron faced a couple of fellow Lone Star Conference schools, as well as a nationally ranked team in the tournament.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 18) – With the weather finally deciding to cooperate, the Aggie baseball team (8-4, 2-2 LSC) today hosted the Texans of Tarleton State (7-4, 2-2 LSC) for a matinee double-header. The teams were supposed to begin a four-game series last Friday, but inclement weather pushed the opening double-header to Sunday in Stephenville, Texas, with the squads wrapping up the series today at McCord Field.

Jackson chooses Smedley to lead Ags

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 15) – The Cameron Athletic Department and Athletic Director Jim Jackson today announced the hiring of Brianne Smedley as head coach of the Aggie volleyball team. She replaces John Haroun who left the team after just one season for personal reasons. Smedley comes to Cameron from Berry University, an NAIA school in Mount Berry, Georgia, where she was the head coach of the Vikings.

ABILENE, Texas (February 14) – With only four days left before their first home game of the season, the Cameron Aggie softball team (6-7) traveled back to Texas today for an afternoon double-header with the Abilene Christian Wildcats (8-4). CU split the double-dip with ACU, losing game one by the score 12-6 and rebounding to take the second game by the score 8-4. The Aggies will continue to travel south on their way to play in the Angelo State University Blue and Gold Classic this weekend.

ADA, Oklahoma (February 13) – The Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (4-18, 2-5 LSC-North) lost a tight one tonight on the road, falling to the Tigers of East Central University (13-10, 3-5 LSC-North). The final score was 77-73 in favor of the Tigers. The Aggies put together a very strong first half and narrowly missed out on their third conference victory of the season.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 13) – Tonight was the night for the Aggie women’s basketball team (4-18, 1-6 LSC-North) as they recorded their first Lone Star Conference North Division win of the season. Cameron visited the East Central Tigers (12-11, 2-6 LSC-North) on the road in Ada, Oklahoma, and came away with a 60-53 victory. A strong first half propelled Cameron to their fourth victory of the season.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 13) – The Aggie baseball team (6-2) got back on track in a big way this afternoon against yet another school from the MIAA conference. Today at Cameron’s McCord Field the Aggie offense powered CU to a double-header sweep of the Missouri Southern State Lions (1-4). Cameron won the first game 12-5, and won the nightcap 14-2. The Aggies were running on all cylinders today, playing outstanding in all aspects of the game.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 9) – After sweeping Pittsburg State last weekend for their first 4-0 start in more than twenty years, the Cameron Aggie baseball team (4-2) hosted another MIAA school out at McCord Field this afternoon. The previously ranked Central Missouri Mules (2-2) swept CU today, winning both games of the double-header by the score 4-2. UCM started out the season ranked #20 in the nation, but dropped from the rankings after getting swept by Northeastern State last weekend.

ABILENE, Texas (February 9) – Facing off against some of the toughest teams in the entire nation, the Cameron Aggie softball team (5-6) this weekend took part in the Abilene Christian University Classic tournament in Abilene, Texas. The tournament featured some of the best teams in the NCAA and included a few other Lone Star Conference teams. Cameron went 1-3 in the tournament and had their fifth and final game cancelled due to weather.

Our Oklahoma weather seems to have trouble making up its mind. One day it's so cold that the dog doesn't want to go outside, the next it's so nice, you can’t get the dog to come back in. CU can’t finish off Lions, still in hunt

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 6) – Looking to move into third place in the Lone Star Conference North Division and closer to a postseason berth, the Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team (4-17, 2-4 LSC-North) tonight hosted the Lions of Texas A&M University-Commerce. CU entered the night in fourth place, and unfortunately that’s where they remained after falling to TAMU-C by the score 93-78. Had they won, the Aggies would have moved into third place one spot ahead of the Lions. Now CU is tied with Northeastern State and East Central at fourth place. The top four teams in both the LSC North and South divisions advance to the LSC Championship postseason tournament.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 6) – A year removed from an NCAA Division-II Elite Eight appearance, the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions (15-6, 4-2 LSC-North) tonight held off a tough Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (3-18, 0-6 LSC-North) for a victory in Aggie Gym. Cameron fought hard for the entire 40 minutes, but could not get the breaks needed to upset the Lions. The Aggies fell to the Lions by the score 89-75 and are still winless in Lone Star Conference North Division play. TAMU-C started out the season ranked nationally but has since fallen out of the Top 25.

LAWTON, Oklahoma (February 3) – The season couldn’t have started better for the Cameron Aggie baseball team (4-0) who this weekend swept all four games in their season-opening series versus Pittsburg State University (0-4). The teams have matched up to start the season for the last few years, and this was the first time CU had won all four games. The four-game series had it all for the Aggies, from a complete game shutout, to a walk-off homerun, to even a near no-hitter.

In the end SWOSU defeated CU by the score 79-63, further strengthening their first-place conference lead. WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma (February 2) – A five-point first half lead wasn’t enough this afternoon as the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (3-17, 0-5 LSC North) is still looking for their first conference victory of the season. CU traveled to Weatherford, Oklahoma, this afternoon to take on the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs (12-8, 3-2 LSC North) and returned home with a 75-53 loss. The Aggies outplayed the Bulldogs in nearly every statistical category with the exception of shooting.
