We're fixin' to have more weather

If my Mama was still with us in 2007, I know just what she'd say: "We're fixin' to have more weather."

I had big expectations about going through the car wash by mid-week. But, it's not happening. If the TV weather professionals are anywhere close to right, we're in for about 10 inches of snow this weekend. That's on top of the ice storm of last weekend that won't go away.

Makes you kind of miss those weeks of 100-plus degree temperatures we had in southwest Oklahoma last summer. Where is some of that global warming when you need it? Oh, well, after the last few winters we've had in these parts of hardly cracking open the sweater drawer, this season I'm getting to wear all of my sweaters.

And Lawton drivers should all get gold stars for their efforts this week - even the Goodyear shift-change traffic. All things considered, there haven't been nearly the number of dented fenders we were expecting to reach.
Usually during winter storms, Oklahoma and Texas drivers, being more used to wearing Hawaiian shirts in January than maneuvering 2,000 pounds of steel and rubber on icy roads, tend to handle the steering wheel like rabid squirrels caught on the ping-pong table during a championship finals match between China and
Japan.

It's a winter wonderland out there, okay. Enjoy it while we can, because you know, six months from now, the kids will be taking eggs out of the frig to watch them fry on Lawton sidewalks.

Take care out there, neighbor.
