LAWTON, Oklahoma (June 1) – So far this offseason the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball program and head coach Kevin Hackerott have added two athletic standouts to the 2007-2008 squad. You can now change that number to five. This week’s signing of Keindra Scott, Kristi Taylor, and Constance Rundles gives the Aggies their third, fourth, and fifth recruits of the season. Each of the girls is expected to greatly increase the level of athleticism on next year’s team.
Keindra Scott comes to Cameron from Houston, Texas and is a transfer from Panola (Texas) College. She was also considering California State – Dominguez Hills, St. Mary’s, and Wayland Baptist.
“We are very excited that Keindra has decided to join our team for next season,” Coach Hackerott said. “She is very athletic and will add to our presence inside with her shot blocking, rebounding, and scoring ability.”
While playing last season as a member of the Panola Fillies, Scott averaged nearly a double-double per game. As the starting power forward, she put up 11 points and 9 rebounds per game.
In 2005-2006, Scott competed as a member of the Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College Red Ravens where she also played as the starting power forward. Scott averaged 12.7 points and 6 rebounds per game at CCC. She was also named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Keindra fits in with the up-tempo style of play we are looking forward to playing,” Coach Hackerott said. “She fills our need for an inside game. Right now we only have two returners inside, so Keindra will give us a little more depth and a lot more athleticism to those positions.”
Prior to playing for the Red Ravens, Scott attended Jack Yates (Texas) High School. As a JYHS Lion, Scott was her team’s leading rebounder and was named to the All-District First Team after averaging an amazing 20.7 rebounds per game.
“Keindra is extremely athletic,” Coach Hackerott said. “Her length and athleticism has led her to become a very good rebounder, and she has a great instinct for where the ball will come off the rim.”
Scott will begin attending classes on campus next fall. She plans to study communications and psychology.
Kristi Taylor is another of Cameron’s recent signees, transferring to Cameron from Temple (Texas) Junior College. While a member of the TJC Lady Leopards, Taylor helped to lead the team to a Temple Tournament Championship.
“Kristi is a very strong, physical guard who has played both the point guard and wing positions,” Coach Hackerott said. “We look forward to her filling those roles with us.”
Taylor sat out her sophomore season at TJC due to a severe knee injury. When not injured, she was the starting point guard averaging 5 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals per game.
Prior to TJC, Taylor started as varsity point guard each of her four years at James Bowie (Arlington, Texas) High School. At JBHS, Taylor led her team in assists each year and actually set the all-time school assist record. She was also named her team’s MVP after her freshman year, was named to the All-District Second Team following her junior year, and was instrumental in helping the JBHS Volunteers to win two district titles.
“I’m excited about her ability to handle, distribute, and defend the ball, which are all areas that our team needs to improve in,” Coach Hackerott said. “We look forward to her making an impact right away.”
Before selecting Cameron, Taylor was recruited by Odessa Permian Basin and Midwestern State. She will begin attending classes this fall with a concentration in Psychology and Coaching.
Cameron’s most recent addition, Constance Rundles, comes to Cameron from Mansfield Summit (Texas) High School which boasts one of the most elite women’s basketball programs in the Lone Star State. MSHS finished last season with a record of 36-4 and an appearance in the semifinal round of the state playoffs. MSHS finished the 2006-2007 state playoffs in fourth-place.
“Constance is a wing player who is extremely athletic,” Coach Hackerott said. “She comes from a very successful program at MSHS, and I think her being the captain really says a lot about her character and work ethic.”
While a member of the MSHS Jaguars, Rundles helped to lead the team to a first-place finish in both the Arlington Classic and Mansfield Rotary basketball tournaments, as well as a second-place showing in McDonald’s Championship Tournament in Houston.
“Constance’s athleticism from the wing position will add valuable depth and will allow us to play an exciting style of basketball,” Coach Hackerott said. “We expect her to come in and compete for playing time as a freshman, and look forward to her four years with our program.”
Prior to picking the Aggies, Rundles considered playing for the University of Louisiana - Shreveport. Rundles will pursue a degree in accounting while playing basketball and attending classes at Cameron.
As mentioned previously, the Aggie women’s basketball program has now signed five recruits for next year. Coach Hackerott plans to add a few more before the start of next season, so stay tuned to goaggies.cameron.edu for all the latest in recruiting information.
