For film buffs, one of the most exciting of the million-and-one Centennial activities going on celebrating state’s 100th birthday is the Oklahoma Centennial Film Series.
Showtime is 2 p.m. every Sunday through next month at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The museum is located about an hour and 15 minutes north of Lawton, in downtown OKC. The address is 415 Couch Drive.
Brian Hearn, film curator at the museum, is the one who has lined up this unique and impressive marquee of movies that have an Oklahoma focus. The movies are actually shown in the museum's Noble Theater. Admission is $8.
The series has already played the 1931 version of "Cimarron" and "The Grapes of Wrath." Still to come: July 22, "Oklahoma!"; July 29, "Tulsa"; Aug. 5, "Bound for Glory"; Aug. 12, "The Outsiders"; Aug. 19, "Twister"; Aug. 26, "Where the Heart Is."
The series will conclude with the only thing film buffs enjoy more than watching a movie and that’s talking about movies. “Images of Oklahoma t the Movies: A Panel Discussion” begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 29 at the museum.
