PITTSBURG, Kansas (November 17) – The Cameron men’s basketball team (0-2) competed in the Pittsburg State University classic tournament this weekend taking on the likes of Missouri Southern (1-0) and Pittsburg State (2-0). Unfortunately the Aggies came away with two losses after falling to MSSU on Friday in overtime, 82-81, and then to PSU tonight 85-50. This weekend’s tournament was the official start to the 2007-2008 regular season for the Aggies.

In Cameron’s first match-up with Missouri Southern, the Aggies took a 34-33 lead into halftime. The squads traded points throughout the game until Cameron tied the score at 70-70 with about one minute left in the second half. In overtime MSSU started out with the lead, but Cameron quickly took charge. The lead changed hands a total of seven times in overtime with Missouri Southern getting the final basket.

The Aggies took on a tough Pittsburg State team this evening in the second game of the tournament and seemed to be fighting from behind throughout. The Aggies were down 56-20 going into halftime, but were able to claw back and take the second half 30-29. Unfortunately the lead was too large and Cameron came away with the loss.

Leading the Aggies offensively this weekend was junior forward Leslie Malone. Malone went off for 37 total points on 15-27 shooting. He also finished the tournament with 24 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Malone recorded a double-double versus MSSU with 27 points and 17 rebounds.

Senior guard Maurice Cubit also had a solid tournament finishing with 26 total points on 9-16 shooting. He totaled 6 rebounds, a block, and a team-high 5 steals. Cubit was strong from beyond the three-point arc as he went a combined 7-12, including 6-8 against MSSU.

Sophomore guard Greg Morgan finished the tournament with 19 total points on 6-19 shooting. He also recorded 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and a team-high 9 assists.

The Aggies stay on the road next weekend as they travel to the St. Mary’s University Invitational tournament in San Antonio, Texas. Cameron takes on Paul Quinn College in the first round of the tournament at 5:00pm on Friday, November 23. On Saturday, November 24, Cameron takes on St. Mary’s at 7:30pm.
