LAWTON, Oklahoma (December 14) – The Cameron men’s basketball team (1-8) got over the hump tonight, securing their first win of the season in dominating fashion. The Aggies completely outplayed the Eagles of RHEMA Bible College (2-12) by the score 109-73. Tonight CU put on an absolutely outstanding show for the fans in attendance.

The Aggies started the game red hot and looked as if they would keep the lead the entire game. They let the Eagles back into it early but quickly shut the door. Cameron was truly running on all cylinders tonight to get their first win.

“This was definitely a confidence booster,” Head Coach Maurice Leitzke said. “This season we really struggled shooting the ball, but we know we have kids that can shoot the ball well. It was nice to be in our own gym and get our confidence going, but we still have a lot of kinks to work out, there is no doubt about that. We are not perfect but there are a lot of positives we can accentuate. There is still a lot of work to do.”

The Aggies shot an impressive 65.3% from the field including 77.8% in the second half. Cameron also only turned the ball over fifteen times compared to RHEMA’s 19. The Eagles recorded a 43.5% field goal percentage tonight.

“I keep going over the confidence factor with our players and it was great to see us shoot the ball well. It was a huge plus for us to be able to knock down open shots. This was a great confidence booster.”

This year the RHEMA Eagles returned three players from last year’s USCAA National Division I Championship team, and have won five of the last nine ACCA championships. Just last week they came within a few points of defeating a tough Northeastern State team in Tahlequah.

“RHEMA is a very good basketball team,” Coach Leitzke said. “They are a good team that has played a few Division-II teams very close recently, and they have beaten some solid NAIA teams this season. RHEMA will have a very good year this season.”

Cameron’s sophomore guard Kallan Glasgow had a very strong game tonight, recording a double-double with 14 points on 6-8 shooting with a team-high 10 rebounds. Glasgow also chipped in 3 assists, a block, and a steal in 25 minutes of play.

“Kallan absolutely hustled his tail off tonight,” Coach Leitzke said. “He worked really, really hard for his double-double. Greg Morgan also had a good game and did a great job of penetrating.”

Morgan, a junior guard, finished the game with 14 points on 7-11 shooting. He also recorded 7 rebounds, a steal, and a team-high 7 assists in 30 minutes on the floor.

Junior forward Leslie Malone had a huge game offensively for Cameron, leading the squad with 30 points on 14-19 shooting. In his 22 minutes Malone also contributed 6 rebounds and an assist. His 3 blocks and 3 steals were both team-highs.

Eleven different Aggies saw action in tonight’s game with nine finishing in the scoring column. Additionally, no Cameron player recorded more than two personal fouls.

“Everyone played to their strengths tonight,” Coach Leitzke said. “We are going to have some days off but we will come right back and start practicing for OPSU. It will be good for us to have a break.”

The Aggie men’s basketball team is now off until Sunday, December 30, when they host the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State. The game tips off at 5:00pm in Aggie Gym and will be the second time this season that the two squads have faced off. OPSU took the earlier match-up at the buzzer, 88-86.
