 “One to Six” Art Purchase Award Increased to $900.00

(Lawton, OK) One artist’s work will be selected as awards to be given to the six “2008 Cultural Award Winners”. These “Art Awards” honors artists, educators, businesses/organizations, and citizens who have made a difference in our community through their work in the Arts and/or Humanities.

The Lawton Arts and Humanities Council will jury the artwork.  The artist will receive $900.00 for the six pieces, an increase over the previous years award.  The theme is open but should be appropriate to the Cultural Awards. All artists are eligible with only six (6) works allowed per artists. There is no entry fee. The deadline is December 12, 2008.

Works submitted should be less than 24” in any dimension.  All media considered including framed limited edition fine art prints or photographs.  Two-dimensional and three-dimensional works also considered.  Media including frame and matting should be made of archival materials. Three-dimensional works should have fine art presentation.  An area needs to be reserved for a plaque on all works – frame or base.

Interested artists should submit digital files or a photo of the work.  For two-dimensional works, only one view is needed. For three-dimensional works, the top and side views need to be submitted.  Each photo should have artist’s name and title of the work.  The artist needs to submit an artist statement with contact information.  For return service of photos, please submit a self-addressed envelop.

Submit entries (no original works accepted in the office) to the Arts & Humanities Division Office located at 801 NW Ferris or mail to the Arts & Humanities Division, P.O. Box 1054, Lawton, OK 73502.  The “One to Six” Art Purchase Competition is sponsored by the City of Lawton and the Lawton Arts and Humanities Council.
