Cultural Award Nominations Due November 14th
Do you know someone who has made outstanding contributions in the arts and/or humanities in Lawton and the surrounding cities? Perhaps it is an “unsung” arts and/or humanities angel who has contributed to the quality of life in Comanche County. The City of Lawton and the Lawton Arts & Humanities Council (LAHC) are accepting nominations for the 2008 Cultural Awards. These awards honor artists, educators, businesses/organizations, and citizens who have made a difference in our community.
The first person to accept the award in 1971 was Mrs. Roma Clift Montgomery. Her selfless acts in supporting the arts, humanities, artists, educators, and students are legendary. The Citizen of the Arts and the Citizen of the Humanities awards have been renamed in her honor.
The six nominee categories are:
Roma Clift Montgomery Citizen of the Arts
Roma Clift Montgomery Citizen of the Humanities
Educator in the Arts
Educator in the Humanities
Business/Organization in the Arts and Humanities
Artist of the Year
The awards will be given at the “2009 Arts for All” luncheon.
Any individual or organization may submit nominations for the six categories. The deadline is November 14, 2008.
Nomination forms are online at www.cityof.lawton.ok.us/lahc/LAHCAwards.htm. They can also be picked up at the Arts and Humanities Office located at 801 NW Ferris or the City of Lawton’s Welcome Center located in the Museum of the Great Plains. For more information, contact the Arts & Humanities Division at 580-581-3470/581-3471 or visit www.cityof.lawton.ok.us/lahc/index.htm .
