Aggies-Sooners game time set

LAWTON, Oklahoma (November 3) – The Cameron Aggie men’s basketball team and first-year head coach Wade Alexander kick off their 2008-2009 season this weekend with an exhibition contest against the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Oklahoma. The game’s start time was set this morning at 12:00pm so as not to conflict with the Oklahoma-Texas A&M football game taking place at 2:30pm in College Station, Texas. Saturday’s CU-OU basketball game will not count for either team, but will be an exciting way to begin the Wade Alexander regime at Cameron.

“We will make sure our guys play hard and compete against a very tough opponent like Oklahoma,” Coach Alexander said. “It will be a fun atmosphere and something that very few people get to experience.”

The game will take place in the Lloyd Noble Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma, and tickets to the game are just $10 each. The Oklahoma Sooners were picked #1 in the Big Twelve preseason rankings, and are currently #14 in the latest national rankings.

For those Aggie fans wanting to attend the game but not wanting to drive, the Cameron Athletics Department is hosting a “CU at OU” bus trip to and from the game. Sponsored by Adventure Travel, the bus departs at 9:30am on Saturday morning from the north end of the Cameron Stadium parking lot and returns back to campus after the game. The bus begins loading at 9:00am.

The “CU at OU” bus trip costs only $30 and includes a ticket to the game, a ride to and from the game, and a few giveaways. A number of the CU athletics staff members, including Athletic Director Jim Jackson, will be riding the bus as well. Anyone interested in riding the bus needs to contact Jackson at either (580)581-2306 or jjackson@cameron.edu.

If the required number of participants is not met by 4:00pm this Wednesday (November 5), the “CU at OU” bus trip will be cancelled due to low participation. The “CU at OU” bus trip is for adults and families, however there is also a students-only bus trip that will be departing at the same time and from the same location on Saturday.

“I hope everyone can come out to take advantage of this experience and support their Aggie men’s basketball team,” Coach Alexander said. “It’s not every year that you can go see Cameron play a nationally ranked Division-I squad with a possible future #1 pick in the NBA draft (Blake Griffin).”

The Aggies and Sooners have only met once before in each school’s history: an exhibition on November 10, 2004, in Norman. In the only CU-OU basketball game ever, the Sooners came out on top 91-56.

Cameron begins the 2008-2009 regular season on Saturday, November 15, in the Aggie Gym. That evening the Aggie men host the Hillsdale Free-Will Baptist College (Moore, Oklahoma) Saints at 7:00pm.
