Aggie women to start year at #30
SKILLMAN, New Jersey (November 7) – The 2009 spring season should be another impressive one for the Cameron Aggie women’s tennis team. This week the squad was ranked #30 in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings of the season. Regionally CU is ranked #6 in the NCAA South Central Region, but has the talent to move much higher in the rankings.
“We have a great team this year and could definitely move up by the end of the season,” Head Coach James Helvey said. “We’ll play another extremely difficult schedule, but to be the best you have to play the best.”
Cameron’s only player ranked nationally is Irene George, who will start 2009 ranked #40 in the singles rankings. Regionally she is the #5 ranked singles player. Additionally, George and teammate Sophia Rich are the #10 ranked doubles tandem in the region.
“Irene is very consistent and I like our chances with her at the top singles and double spots,” Coach Helvey said. “We have a few new girls this season but we still have a very solid team across the board.”
The Cameron Aggie women’s tennis team next hits the court in February for the start of the 2009 season.
